Naranag Gangabal Trek
Introduction
The Naranag–Gangabal Trek is one of the most accessible and scenic trekking routes in Kashmir, open for most of the year.
This moderate-level trek takes you through enchanting pine forests, lush green meadows, and high-altitude pastures before reaching the
stunning twin alpine lakes of Gangabal and Nundkol, resting peacefully at the base of
Mount Harmukh (5,300m).
This trek is perfect for beginners and nature enthusiasts seeking a short yet rewarding Himalayan adventure.
The initial climb from Butsheri is steep but soon opens into wide alpine meadows offering breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks.
During April–May and October–November, the trail transforms into a snow trek,
offering a completely different charm of the Kashmiri Himalayas.
For those looking for a touch of adventure, rock climbing around the lakes is also an option.
Before you embark on this journey, ensure that you are reasonably fit, comfortable walking a few kilometers daily,
and ready for short ascents and descents at high altitudes.
